A Dance of Shadows opens with folded Sicilian green mandarin oil, cut clean against the warmth of whisky, burnt caramel and oakwood CO₂. At the heart, Isparta rose absolute appears like a dark stain on varnished wood, while tobacco absolute unfolds dry, warm and authoritative. The base moves into black coffee, Arabica coffee CO₂, dense and unsweetened, pushed into sandalwood, Hiba wood, oud and gurjun. Ciste, labdanum, Peru balsam and benzoin Siam build a resinous sheen, while cypriol, Brazilian vetiver, patchouli, oakmoss, decalepis root, musks and modern woody ambers provide a blackened, sophisticated finish.

"They pay me to find what prefers the dark, and tonight the city had plenty to offer: rain varnished the streets, neon stuttered in the puddles, and the air from the club door came up oily with anise, sweat, and last chances. Inside, velvet was scuffed, mirrors were foxed, and trouble wore lipstick that didn’t match its story. A priest’s collar slept on a chair, a badge lay face-down beside it, and the bartender’s bandaged knuckles said the till had opinions.
I was hired for a girl or a ledger, depends on who thinks they own the truth, but here the facts don’t stand still, they trade partners when the hallway light swings and every face learns a new name. So I let the room lead and kept close to the edge, step for step with the shadows, until the music thinned and someone finally paid, in cash, in confession, sometimes both."
